It depends. Most standard MBA programs in the US are not classified as STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) degrees, so they offer only the standard 12-month Optional Practical Training (OPT) period after graduation.

However, some universities offer MBA programs with STEM-designated concentrations, such as Business Analytics or Quantitative Finance. Graduates from these specialized tracks may be eligible for the 24-month STEM OPT extension, for a total of 36 months of post-study work authorization.

Eligibility is determined by the program's official STEM designation and the CIP (Classification of Instructional Programs) code on your Form I-20.

If you want the STEM OPT extension, choose an MBA program that clearly states it is STEM-designated.
