How do I apply for the Government of Ireland scholarship, and which documents should I keep ready?
First apply to an eligible Irish higher education institution and get a conditional or final offer. Then submit your GOI-IES application on the HEA online portal with two references and three personal statement answers. Keep your offer letter, transcripts, CV and English test proof ready.
You need an admission offer from an eligible Irish institution before you can apply for the GOI-IES scholarship. A conditional or final offer works. Once you have it, you submit the scholarship application on the HEA online portal.

Documents and details to keep ready
- Admission offer letter from an eligible Irish institution
- Academic transcripts and certificates
- CV or resume
- Two recommendation letters
- Personal statements
- English language qualification, if your programme asks for it
- Anything else the application portal requests
Only one GOI-IES application can be submitted per cycle, and it cannot be edited after you submit it.
My Advice
Contact your referees early and give them a clear deadline. Since you cannot change the form after submitting, read every answer twice and have someone else review your personal statements before you press submit.
