Do I have to pay the first year fees before getting the visa or just show the money?
You do not need to pay your first year’s tuition before getting a U.S. F-1 student visa. You must show proof that you have enough funds to cover tuition, fees, and living expenses for at least the first academic year.
Acceptable proof includes:
- Recent bank statements showing available funds
- Affidavits of support from sponsors
- Scholarship award letters or financial aid documents
You should also have a clear plan for funding the rest of your studies, using personal funds, family support, or scholarships. If you need help preparing financial documents, contact your LeapScholar counsellor.
