Can you explain the documents required to demonstrate living expenses as per immigration rules?
You must show proof of funds to cover living expenses for your Canadian study permit. As of 1 Sep 2025, the minimum required for a single applicant is CAD 22,895/year (living expenses), plus tuition and travel. This amount is subject to change and increases if family members accompany you.
Accepted documents include:
- Bank statements (last 4 months) in your or your sponsor’s name
- Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) of at least CAD 22,895 from a participating Canadian bank
- Proof of tuition payment (receipts or official letters)
- Bank drafts convertible to Canadian dollars
- Letter of financial support with supporting bank statements and income proof
All documents must be in English or French. If you plan to bring family, higher funds are required. For personalized guidance, contact your LeapScholar counsellor.
