Yes, as an international student in New Zealand, you can work part-time during your studies under certain conditions. From November 3, 2025, eligible student visa holders can work up to 25 hours per week during academic terms and full-time during scheduled breaks.

You must be enrolled in a full-time course that is at least two academic years long, leads to a Level 4 or higher New Zealand qualification, or is part of an approved student exchange program. Master's by research and PhD students can work unlimited hours.

Work must be as an employee (not self-employed). Typical part-time jobs include hospitality, retail, tutoring, and admin support.

Your visa will list your specific work rights. Part-time work can help with living costs but usually won't cover tuition.
