Yes, there have been recent changes to U.S. student visa policies and the Optional Practical Training (OPT) period.

- Fixed visa duration: Starting September 15, 2026, F-1 student visas will be issued for a fixed period matching your program length (up to 4 years), plus a 30-day grace period, instead of the previous "Duration of Status" (D/S) framework.
- OPT now counts toward visa cap: Time spent on OPT will count toward your total allowed stay under the 4-year cap. If you need more time to finish your studies or OPT, you'll need to apply for an Extension of Stay (EOS) with USCIS.
- Increased visa refusals: Recent data shows F-1 visa refusal rates for Indian students have risen, with 61% refused in 2025.
