Repeating a broad Risk Management master's after six years in the field adds little, the stronger move is to add a technical layer, quantitative risk, analytics or compliance, on top of the experience you already have, and the right layer depends on which part of risk you have actually worked in.

Match the Specialisation to Your Six Years, Not the Job Title

  • Banking, credit or market risk experience: Financial Risk Management is the clearest continuation, and pairs well with building Python, SQL and Power BI skills alongside it.
  • KYC, AML or regulatory experience: a Compliance, Financial Crime or Regulatory Risk master's fits better than a quantitative-risk degree.
  • Comfortable with data and code: a Risk Analytics or Data Analytics master's lets you compete on employability rather than credentials alone, since six years of experience already differentiates you from fresh graduates.

My Advice

Do not choose an MBA at this stage unless your actual goal is management or consulting rather than staying technical in risk, a specialised master's gives a much cleaner career story with six years already behind you. Aim to leave the programme with a recognised professional certification track, such as FRM or PRM, layered on top, it strengthens the degree considerably for UK and Irish employers alike.
