Your current job matters more than your undergraduate degree at this stage. A software developer, a data analyst, and a DevOps engineer should each land on a different specialisation even though all three hold the same Computer Science degree.

Match Your Current Job to the Right MSc

  • Software Developer: Cloud Computing and Distributed Systems often compounds better with your existing skills than starting over with Data Science.
  • Data or BI Analyst: Data Science is the safer choice, keeping you flexible across analytics, engineering, and machine learning roles.
  • DevOps or Cloud Engineer: Cybersecurity or a deeper Cloud specialisation both build directly on your infrastructure experience.
  • QA or Test Engineer: Software Engineering is the more natural progression than a heavily mathematical AI track.

My Advice

In my experience, candidates ask which MSc gives the easiest visa rather than which MSc plus their existing 3 years of experience creates a profile an employer would actually want to hire, and the second question matters far more. If AI and Machine Learning admissions are too competitive, Cloud Computing and Distributed Systems is a genuinely strong, less crowded alternative with similar salary outcomes.
