Which documents do I need for my Chevening Scholarship application?

Quick Answer verified

You upload no documents with the initial Chevening application, but you must give the names and contact details of two referees. If shortlisted for an interview, you upload valid photo ID, your undergraduate degree certificate and two English reference letters at least 7 working days before the interview.

The Chevening document process is lighter than it looks. You upload nothing with the initial online application, but you must provide two referees' names and contact details. If you are shortlisted, you then upload a few documents.

Documents if you are shortlisted for interview

DocumentDetails
Valid photo IDPassport or national identity card; carry the same ID to the interview
Undergraduate degree certificateOfficial certificate or diploma showing your degree and final grade; transcripts are not accepted instead; no English translation needed for the original
Two reference lettersWritten in English by your nominated referees, covering your professional qualities, leadership potential, skills and suitability

Timing to remember

  • Upload these at least 7 working days before your scheduled interview.
  • Successful candidates later submit an unconditional offer from at least one of their 3 selected UK courses.
  • For the 2026 application cycle, the deadline for that offer is July 8, 2027.

My Advice

Contact your referees early so they know what to write. Keep your degree certificate scanned and ready, and confirm dates on the official Chevening page for your cycle.
