• Employment or income: an internship, job offer, or research commitment lined up in India after your studies.
• Financial standing: stronger, clearly documented ability to pay for the trip, whether your own funds or your family's.
• Travel purpose: a specific, credible itinerary, such as tourism during a defined university break, rather than a vague reason to visit.

Build the Case Around Three Questions

The State Department's own guidance centres on why you are going, who is paying, and why you will return to India. Answer each one directly and consistently on your new DS-160, including honestly disclosing the earlier refusal. Complete a fresh application rather than reusing the old one, since inconsistent or incomplete DS-160 answers can themselves cause problems.

My Advice

In my experience, students over-prepare with a thick folder of documents and under-prepare their spoken answers. The officer has a few minutes with you, not time to review a binder. Practise explaining your study progress, funding and return plan in two or three plain sentences each. You will also need to pay the non-refundable application fee again, currently $185 for a B visitor visa, so time your reapplication for when your circumstances have genuinely moved forward rather than rushing back in immediately.
