To practice law in the UK after an LLM, you must complete additional qualifications:
- Solicitor: Pass both stages of the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE1 for legal knowledge, SQE2 for practical skills) and complete two years of Qualifying Work Experience (QWE).
- Barrister: Complete vocational training (such as the Bar Training Course) and a pupillage.
An LLM alone does not qualify you to practice. Some exemptions from parts of the SQE may apply if you have significant legal experience, but passing the required exams and gaining practical experience are essential.
