Here’s a typical timeline for applying to study in Canada for the September 2027 intake:

- Research universities: Start June 2026. Shortlist programs at Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs).
- IELTS preparation: Begin July - Sept 2026. Plan to take the test by March 2027 to allow for retakes if needed.
- University applications: Submit October - December 2026. Prepare transcripts, Letters of Recommendation, and Statement of Purpose.
- Receive offers and confirm enrollment: January - February 2027. Pay tuition deposit (usually CAD 2,000 - 10,000).
- Get Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL): February - March 2027 if required by your program.
- Gather financial documents: March - April 2027. Proof includes a Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) of CAD 22,895 and bank statements.
- Apply for study permit: April - May 2027 via the IRCC portal. Submit all documents, pay application (CAD 150) and biometrics (CAD 85) fees.
- Complete biometrics: May 2027 at a Visa Application Centre.
- Wait for permit decision: June - July 2027. Processing times vary; applying 3 - 4 months early is recommended.
- Final preparations: August 2027. Book flights, arrange accommodation, and prepare entry documents.

If a medical exam is required, schedule it with an IRCC-approved doctor - this may take 2 - 4 weeks. All fees and requirements are subject to change.
