What is the process and timeline for applying for a study visa for Canada?
You should start your Canadian study permit application well in advance to meet your September 2026 intake goal.
- Secure admission: Get your Letter of Acceptance from a designated Canadian institution by March - April 2026.
- Obtain a Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL): Request this from your province after accepting your offer, ideally by March - April 2026.
- Prepare documents: Gather your passport, admission letter, PAL, proof of funds, IELTS score, biometrics, and any required medical or police certificates.
- Apply for the study permit: Submit your application online with a typical fee of CAD 150. Aim to apply by May 2026 to allow for processing time (subject to change).
- Attend biometrics and medicals if required: Complete these steps promptly after receiving instructions.
Applying early increases your chances of timely approval.
