Internship duration and salary in the UK depend on the type of internship and your visa status.
- Summer internships: Usually 6 - 12 weeks.
- Industrial placements: 6 - 12 months, often as part of your degree.
- Graduate internships: 3 - 12 months after graduation.
Interns classified as "workers" are entitled to at least the National Minimum Wage (NMW), which as of April 2026 is £12.71/hour for those aged 21 and over. For a 20-hour workweek, this is about £1,057/month before tax.
Your visa may limit how many hours you can work.
