• Recruiting cycle alignment: starting in August or September puts you in the normal cohort for orientation, career fairs, and the standard internship-to-full-time recruiting pipeline; a January start enters the recruiting cycle halfway through the academic year with fewer opportunities in the first semester.

Country-by-Country Exceptions

• Canada: Fall gives the widest programme choice, and since January 2026, master's and doctoral applicants at Canadian public designated learning institutions are exempt from the international student cap and no longer need a provincial attestation letter.
• UK: September or October is the main postgraduate intake, but January is genuinely viable at many UK institutions, unlike most US universities, and the British Council's GREAT Scholarships offer up to 10,000 pounds for Indian students at participating universities across their taught master's portfolio.
