Your 6.88 GPA and IELTS 6.5 are both workable numbers, but where they land you shifts a lot depending on the country. The UK's published thresholds match your file almost exactly, while Ireland and the Netherlands quietly raise the bar higher than your overall GPA alone suggests, mainly through their emphasis on your specific economics and maths coursework.

UK Programmes That Match Your Profile Today

  • University of Southampton's MSc Economics: a straight 12 months full-time, requiring IELTS 6.5 overall with 6.0 in each component, no gap against your current score.
  • University of Bath's MSc Economics: states a 6.5-out-of-10 threshold for Indian applicants, comfortably cleared by your 6.88.
  • University of Westminster's MSc Economics: accepts a relevant economics or quantitative background at the same IELTS band.

My Advice

Your 2 years of work experience helps at the margin, especially if it is in finance, consulting, analytics or policy, but it will not substitute for weak quantitative coursework at the more selective Irish or Dutch programmes. Pull your actual transcript and check your econometrics, statistics and maths grades specifically before ruling any of these in or out. As a backup, apply to a realistic UK shortlist first, then add one or two ambitious Irish or Dutch reaches only if your core-subject grades are stronger than your 6.88 overall average suggests.
