What funds do I need to show for the Canadian student visa application?
You must show proof of funds for your Canadian study permit covering tuition, living expenses, and transportation for your first year.
- Living expenses (single applicant): CAD 22,895/year (effective September 1, 2025; excludes tuition and travel)
- Each additional family member: increases the required amount (e.g., 2 people: CAD 28,502/year)
Funds can be shown through:
- Bank statements (last 4 months)
- Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC)
- Proof of paid tuition/housing
- Scholarship or sponsorship letters
- Education loan sanction letters
