After a one-year specialized program in Canada, you are generally eligible for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) valid for up to one year, provided your program is at least 8 months, leads to a degree, diploma, or certificate, and is from a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) that offers PGWP-eligible programs.

- PGWP duration matches your program length if it’s between 8 months and less than 2 years, so a one-year program typically gives a one-year permit.
- Master’s programs: As of February 15, 2024, a one-year master's may qualify you for a PGWP of up to three years.
- Full-time status is required throughout your studies (except possibly the final semester).
- Application deadline: You must apply within 180 days of receiving official program completion confirmation.
- Language proof is required for applications from November 1, 2024.
- The PGWP is non-renewable and can only be granted once.
- Completing two eligible programs back-to-back (totaling at least two years) may qualify you for a longer PGWP (up to three years).
