The main differences between MS (Master's), MRes (Master of Research), and PhD programs in the UK are in the application process and post-study work (Graduate Visa) options.

- MS (Master's): Focuses on coursework with some research. Application requires academic qualifications and English proficiency.
- MRes: Emphasizes research skills, often leading to PhD. Application is similar to MS but values research experience more.
- PhD: Requires a strong research proposal and significant research background.

Post-study work (Graduate Visa):
- MS/MRes graduates: Stay up to 2 years (applications by 31 Dec 2026), or 18 months (from 1 Jan 2027; subject to change).
- PhD graduates: Stay up to 3 years.

You must complete your course and apply from within the UK before your student visa expires. The Graduate Visa does not lead to permanent residency. For long-term stay, you’ll need a job that qualifies for the Skilled Worker visa.
