What are the conditions for post-study work permits in Canada, and how does the college's status affect this for a Diploma?
To qualify for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) in Canada, you must:
- Complete a program of at least 8 months that leads to a degree, diploma, or certificate.
- Graduate from a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) approved for international students.
- Maintain full-time student status in each semester (except possibly your final one).
- Apply for the PGWP within 180 days of receiving your final marks or completion letter.
- Complete at least 50% of your studies in Canada.
- Hold a valid study permit at some point during the 180 days before you apply.
Your college’s DLI status is essential - only graduates from DLIs are eligible for the PGWP. If your college loses DLI status while you are enrolled, you may need to transfer to another DLI to remain eligible.
