Should an Indian student apply for a scholarship and a university offer simultaneously or secure the offer first when targeting UK and Ireland?

Apply for both simultaneously wherever possible. Most university application portals include scholarship options within the same application interface, when you are filling in your SOP and submitting your documents, the scholarship application is often part of the same process. Applying for a scholarship through the same portal does not create any risk for your admission chances: universities can decline the scholarship while still offering you a seat. So there is no scenario where applying for a scholarship alongside the main application costs you the place.

• The mistake most students make is treating the scholarship application as a second step to pursue after receiving an admission offer, which means missing scholarship deadlines that close at the same time as or earlier than the general admission deadline.
• For UK scholarships like Chevening, the application process runs entirely separately and on its own earlier timeline, but for university-internal scholarships, the simultaneous approach is the right one.
• Research the specific scholarship processes for each institution on your list and map out all deadlines before submitting anything.
