Yes, you may be able to work and potentially settle in New Zealand after a short-term study program, but it depends on your qualification level and the program’s duration.

- Post Study Work Visa (PSWV): For degree-level (Level 7 or higher) programs studied full-time for at least 30 weeks, you can get up to 3 years of work rights. For certain non-degree (Level 4 - 6) programs, the visa duration matches your study period.
- Short-term Graduate Work Visa: From 16 Nov 2026, graduates with a Level 5 - 7 qualification (excluding English, foundation, or bridging courses), studied full-time for at least 24 weeks, may get a 6-month open work visa if they haven’t held a PSWV or this visa before.

To settle permanently, you’ll generally need a job offer from an accredited employer and must meet further criteria for long-term or residency visas. Visa rules are subject to change. For detailed guidance on your specific situation, please connect with your LeapScholar counsellor.
