Is Ireland a good option for study abroad with flexible spouse policies and no IELTS requirement for spouse for a PhD?

Ireland is not ideal if you want flexible spouse policies or no IELTS requirement for your spouse.

- Spouse accompaniment: Most international students cannot bring their spouse to Ireland. Exceptions are rare and usually only for PhD students who meet strict financial requirements.
- Spouse employment: Even if a spouse is allowed to join, their right to work depends on special permissions and is not guaranteed.
- IELTS for spouse: There is no government IELTS requirement for spouses, but some employers may ask for proof of English proficiency.

If bringing your spouse and ensuring their ability to work is important, Ireland’s policies are quite restrictive compared to other countries. If you need to discuss alternatives, please connect with your LeapScholar counsellor.
