Yes, Bar Council registration (or equivalent professional admission) is mandatory to practice law in both Germany and the UK after completing an LLM.

- UK: An LLM alone does not qualify you to practice. You must complete the required academic and vocational training, including a law degree or conversion course, bar training, and pupillage. Only after these steps can you register with the Bar Standards Board to practice as a barrister.
- Germany: An LLM does not grant the right to practice. You must pass the Second State Examination and then apply for admission to the local Bar Association (Rechtsanwaltskammer) to legally practice as an attorney.

Completing an LLM is valuable academically but does not replace the mandatory professional qualifications or bar registration in either country.
