Canada is currently much stricter with visa and permanent residency (PR) processes than in previous years. Application scrutiny has increased, processing times are longer, and approval rates have dropped across most PR streams.

- Backlogs: As of July 31, 2025, there were over 900,000 pending applications, causing significant delays.
- Approval rates: The Federal Skilled Worker Program approval rate fell from about 92% in 2022 to 69% in 2025.
- Policy changes: Fewer PR admissions are being granted, with priority given to those already in Canada. Rules for international students and temporary workers have also tightened, limiting open work permits for family members.

Immigration policies and quotas are subject to change. Careful, accurate application preparation is now more important than ever.
