The US route requires a four-year bachelor's degree first, since a JD (Juris Doctor) is a graduate-entry qualification, followed by three years of law school. That is seven years of study before you hold a first law degree in the US, against three in the UK.

If you have already completed an Indian LLB, you don't need to repeat seven years abroad. My Advice

If your goal is simply to become a lawyer as fast and affordably as possible, the UK LLB wins on both counts. But if you specifically want to practise US law, particularly in a state like New York, the JD is the conventional route and there's no real shortcut around its cost. Confirm bar eligibility rules for your target US state before committing to either an LLM or a JD.
