Does it matter which school within SMU a student is admitted to, School of Accountancy versus LKCSB, for long-term career prospects?

The SMU brand as a whole matters more to most employers than the specific school within SMU. Both the School of Accountancy and Lee Kong Chian School of Business (LKCSB) are well-regarded and produce graduates who enter the same employment market. LKCSB has a slightly stronger global recognition through the business school rankings, while the School of Accountancy is highly ranked within Singapore and in Asia for accounting-related roles. For careers in finance, consulting, and business management, being an SMU graduate is the primary signal to most employers, the internal school distinction becomes relevant primarily for accounting-specific roles where the SOA's CPA alignment matters, or for the relatively small number of employers who specifically recruit from one school over another.

• The more important variable than which SMU school you are in is what you do during your time there: internships, GPA, clubs, and the professional relationships you build will differentiate your outcomes more than the school name within the university.
