No, you do not receive the GIC (Guaranteed Investment Certificate) amount back after some years. The GIC is a fixed deposit to show proof of funds for your first year in Canada.

After you arrive, the bank releases the GIC amount to you in monthly installments over 10 to 12 months for your living expenses. Once all the money is disbursed, the account is closed and there is no lump sum returned later.
