What is the duration of the course and post-study work permit in the UK?

A full-time Master’s in the UK usually takes 12 months. If you apply for the Graduate Visa before December 31, 2026, you can stay and work for 2 years after graduation. From January 2027, this post-study work duration reduces to 18 months. The Graduate Visa cannot be renewed but you can explore switching to a Skilled Worker visa if you wish to stay longer.

Yes, the UK post-study work visa (Graduate Visa) duration for international students has been reduced for future applicants.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s graduates:
- Apply on or before 31 Dec 2026: 2 years
- Apply on or after 1 Jan 2027: 18 months
- PhD/Doctoral graduates: 3 years (no change)
This duration is subject to change by UK authorities. The Graduate Visa cannot be extended. To stay longer, you must switch to another visa, such as the Skilled Worker visa, before your Graduate Visa expires.
