A blocked account (Sperrkonto) is a special bank account required for international students applying for a German student visa. You must deposit a set amount - currently €11,904 per year (about ₹ 15 lakh, subject to change) - to show you can cover your living expenses in Germany.

- You deposit the full amount before your visa application. - After arriving in Germany, you can withdraw a fixed sum each month (currently €992/month) for your expenses. - Additional setup and maintenance fees may apply, depending on the provider.

Some other European countries may have similar financial proof requirements, but the blocked account is specific to Germany. For alternatives or details on other countries, consult your LeapScholar counsellor.
