Your 4.5 overall score sits below direct university entry, but real foundation and pathway routes remain open in the UK, Canada and Australia, since providers in each country build tracks specifically for students at your exact level. You just need the extended, multi-term version of these programmes.

Country-by-Country Pathway Comparison

CountryPathway TypeTypical Duration
United KingdomExtended International Foundation Year3 to 4 terms, roughly one year
CanadaESL Pathway plus Conditional Diploma4 to 8 months ESL, then a 2 year diploma
AustraliaExtended Foundation Track12 months across 12 units

Providers Built for Your Score

  • Kingston University International Study Centre: an Extended Foundation Year for Law, Social Science and Humanities from a 4.5.
  • Northumbria University Pathway and Oxford Brookes: accept a 4.5 with no component under 4.0 for their foundation routes.
  • Niagara College, Algonquin College and Camosun College: strong Canadian ESL and academic bridging support for lower bands.
  • Deakin College in Australia: an Extended Foundation Programme that allows sub-scores down to 4.5 alongside literacy modules.

My Advice

Pick your country before your provider, since the UK and Canada currently give you the most flexible, well-tested pathways at a 4.5 overall. Take your IELTS for UKVI specifically if the UK is your target, since a standard Academic IELTS cannot support a standalone pathway visa there.
