Are Canadian student visas currently being issued and are the visa slots open in Canada?
Yes, Canadian student visas are currently being issued, and visa slots are open.
For the January 2027 intake, you can proceed with your application. However, Canada has set an annual cap on study permit applications - 408,000 for 2026, including both new and extension permits. Some applicants may need a provincial or territorial attestation letter (PAL/TAL), but this is not required for master’s and doctoral students at public institutions.
Current study permit processing time from India is about five weeks (as of July 2026), but this is subject to change.
Start your application early to secure your spot.
