What is the full form of CITU?

The full form of CITU is the Centre of Indian Trade Unions. It is a significant CTU in India (Central Trade Unions). It is politically allied with the communist party as its trade union wing. It is well-represented in Kerala and West Bengal and has a substantial presence in the Indian state of Tripura. In Tamil Nadu & Andhra Pradesh, it has a mediocre amount of influence. According to data from the Ministry of Labour, approximately 3,222,532 representatives were part of CITU in 2002.

It represents workers across all industries, including those in manufacturing and service industries, including steel, pharma, coal, electricity, construction, road, rail, textiles, etc.

Various compositions of CITU

The CITU comprises the following divisions

Conference CITU

The CITU General Session takes place once every three years. It is recognized as the CITU Conference and is CITU’s primary law of authority. Below are some of its roles or abilities

  • Adopting CITU policies and making the necessary changes to them in the working class’s best interests
  • Introduce resolutions on issues affecting the development of the working class based on the concerns of state committees and constituent organisations.
