Interest on the KfW Student Loan in Germany is charged from the first disbursement. During your studies, interest is deducted directly from your monthly loan payout, so you receive a slightly reduced amount each month - no separate interest payments are required while studying.

After graduation, there is an 18-month grace period where interest continues to accrue but you do not repay the principal. Once repayment begins, your monthly payments will cover both the principal and accumulated interest.

The interest rate is variable and adjusts every six months, so your total repayment amount may change over time.
