Which universities suit a graduate in International Business applying to Canada or USA?
An International Business bachelor's degree is specific enough that repeating the same curriculum at master's level adds little value; the stronger move is a program that layers in cross-cultural management, analytics, or global strategy on top of what you already studied.
Strongest Universities by Country
| Country | University and Program | Why It Fits |
|---|---|---|
| Canada | Ivey Business School, MSc International Business Management | Case-based, cross-cultural management focus, direct continuation of your IB background |
| Canada | HEC Montreal, MSc International Business | Covers globalisation, international strategy, and value chains; PGWP-eligible |
| USA | George Washington University, MS International Business | Designed for recent graduates; no prior business experience required |
| USA | Northeastern University, MS International Management | Combines international strategy with cross-cultural management and global marketing |
Choosing Canada or the US for Your Profile
- Choose Canada if: you want a more predictable post-study work pathway and prefer Toronto, Vancouver, or Montreal as a base.
- Choose the US if: you want maximum access to consulting, finance, and multinational employers, and can manage a more complex post-study work and visa environment.
- Avoid Georgetown's MA International Business and Policy as a fresher: the program recommends at least three years of post-bachelor's professional experience, which puts it out of reach immediately after an IB degree.

My Advice
In my experience, International Business graduates default to whichever country their friends are applying to rather than weighing career goals first. If your plan is to work abroad long-term, Canada's more predictable work-permit rules make it the lower-risk choice; if your plan is to maximise short-term earning and career acceleration, the US market is larger, even though the immigration path is less certain. Either way, apply to at least one school in each country rather than committing to a single market this early.
