Which universities suit a Bachelor of Business Administration graduate applying to Germany or Ireland with 5 years of work experience?
Germany and Ireland reward your five years of work experience in different ways, and that difference should drive your university list more than rankings do. Ireland's business schools are built around executive-style admissions where professional experience substitutes for parts of the traditional academic profile. Germany, by contrast, tends to scrutinise your BBA transcript module by module, checking ECTS credits and sometimes asking for a GMAT even at the MBA stage. That means the same five years of experience can open more doors in Ireland than in Germany.
Why Trinity's Executive MBA Fits Your Experience Level
- Experience threshold: Trinity Business School's Executive MBA lists a minimum of five years of professional or managerial experience, so you meet the bar exactly rather than scraping in.
- Backup option: University of Galway's MBA typically admits candidates with at least three years of relevant business experience, giving you a realistic second choice with less competition.
- Non-MBA route: Trinity's MSc International Management accepts a 2:1-equivalent degree and lets your work experience count toward one of the references, useful if you would rather avoid a full MBA application.
Germany vs Ireland: Which Rewards 5 Years of Work
| Factor | Ireland | Germany |
|---|---|---|
| How work experience is treated | Central to admission; Executive MBA programmes are designed around it | Secondary; ECTS credits and grades matter more than years worked |
| Strongest options for you | Trinity Executive MBA, University of Galway MBA, UCD MSc Management | Leipzig or Kempten MBA, but expect closer scrutiny of your BBA modules |
| Post-study work route | Stamp 1G graduate permission, up to 40 hours a week of work while it runs | Standard post-study job-search period tied to your residence permit |

My Advice
I would not default to an MSc in Management simply because your bachelor's is in business. With five years behind you, an MBA or a specialised master's in Finance, Analytics, or Supply Chain usually gives a better return, depending on what those five years actually involved. My practical advice: apply to Trinity's Executive MBA as your primary target, keep Galway's MBA as a realistic backup, and only look seriously at Germany if you are prepared to have your BBA transcript audited module by module and possibly asked for a GMAT score.
