A BCom in Finance is a genuinely strong base for both UK and Italian master's programmes, but the two countries reward slightly different things: the UK weighs your quantitative depth more heavily, while Italy weighs your specific course credits.

UK: MSc Finance Is the Strongest Overall Pick, If Your CGPA Clears the Bar

  • Edinburgh's benchmark: its MSc Finance and Investment lists an Indian first class degree, 60 percent or above, as the equivalent of its minimum academic requirement.
  • Watch prerequisites: Manchester's MSc Finance expects substantial prior finance and quantitative coursework, and Imperial's MSc Finance expects a highly quantitative background including probability, calculus and matrix algebra, so do not default to the most elite quantitative programme just because it sounds prestigious.
  • Safer alternative: UCL's MSc Finance accepts finance, economics, mathematics, accounting, engineering or statistics degrees and will consider other backgrounds with demonstrated quantitative skills.

Italy: Bologna and Bocconi Offer Lower Cost, Credit-Specific Routes

  • University of Bologna: its Economics and Econometrics programme explicitly lists Business Administration graduates as eligible, provided your BCom included the appropriate curricular preparation.
  • Bocconi University: its quantitative finance and risk management programme accepts three year degrees in Economics, Banking and Finance, Business and Management, alongside quantitative disciplines.

My Advice

Do not choose purely by course title; UCL, for example, considers non-finance backgrounds with demonstrated quantitative skills, while Portsmouth's MSc Finance and Banking specifically wants a degree containing statistics or quantitative methods, so read admission requirements line by line rather than assuming your BCom Finance label alone is enough. If your BCom was light on mathematics, I would prioritise MSc Corporate Finance or Financial Management over the most quantitative Finance programmes on your shortlist, since the coursework will be far more manageable without sacrificing career outcomes.
