Which master's specialisation suits a BCA graduate applying to Germany with 13 years of work experience?
Thirteen years of experience is a genuine asset in a German application, but it works differently from what many applicants expect: it strengthens your case for a management-adjacent specialisation far more than it substitutes for missing mathematics or computer science credits on a technical one.
Where 13 Years of Experience Actually Helps
- Information Systems or IT Management: the best fit if your career has been in enterprise systems, consulting or business applications, since it builds directly on that experience rather than restarting you in core computer science theory.
- Digital Transformation: particularly suitable for experienced professionals aiming at senior or leadership roles rather than another purely technical qualification.
Where to Check Prerequisites Carefully First
- Computer Science or Informatics: the Technical University of Munich and similar universities often require specific computer science and mathematics credits that a BCA alone does not automatically satisfy, regardless of years of experience.
- Data Science or AI: only pursue this if your BCA transcript included genuine statistics and mathematics coursework, since German programs can impose strict module requirements here too.

My Advice
In my experience, experienced applicants often assume years on the job will offset a weaker transcript, and for Information Systems or IT Management style programs that is often true, but not for core Computer Science admissions. Also budget time for APS certification, since Indian applicants need it verified regardless of how much work experience you bring.
