Before you leave India, you should sort out your travel, insurance, housing and paperwork. Doing this early means you land in the UAE with fewer things left to worry about.

Pre-Departure Tasks

TaskWhat to do
FlightsBook the aeroplane tickets
InsuranceBuy travel and health insurance
HousingLook for accommodation in the UAE
LuggageCheck baggage and customs limitations
PaperworkClear all the paperwork with your previous educational institute

Documents to Carry

Arrange your documents in an orderly manner and make photocopies for further use. Typical items include:

  • Airline tickets and passport
  • Travel insurance certificate
  • Important addresses and phone numbers
  • Letters of acceptance
  • A bank statement showing proof of funds
  • Prescriptions for medicine, if you are carrying any
  • Medical and immunization records
  • Traveller's cheques, if applicable
  • Academic transcripts

My Advice

Keep one folder with originals and another with photocopies, and carry them in your hand luggage rather than your checked bag. Confirm the exact document list with your university and the official UAE authorities before you fly.
