Germany: Why July or September Does Not Work

German universities run primarily on a Winter Semester that begins in October, with a smaller Summer Semester starting around April for some programmes. Frankfurt University, for example, lists its 2027/28 winter semester starting October 1, 2027, with lectures from October 11. If Germany is genuinely your target, plan around the October intake instead and start research in late 2026.
