If you are a Marketing graduate planning your Master's in Germany, you should target the Winter intake starting in October rather than the Summer intake starting in April. Nearly every German public university runs its consecutive Master's curriculum from October, so Summer leaves you with very few marketing or business seats to apply to.

Winter vs Summer Intake for Marketing Masters

FeatureWinter Intake (Recommended)Summer Intake (Alternative)
Semester startsOctoberApril
Application deadlineGenerally 15 JulyGenerally 15 January
Program availabilityMaximum, nearly all marketing programs openVery limited, mostly select private schools
Career and networkingAligns with Europe's main recruitment cycleSmaller batch, fewer hiring drives

Documents You Need to Line Up Early

  • Check your Bachelor's transcript has enough ECTS credit in business, economics or quantitative methods, since German Master's degrees are consecutive and strict on this match.
  • If you graduated from India, start your APS Certificate application immediately, it takes 4 to 8 weeks and public universities will not process your application without it.
  • From the 2027 admission cycle, some universities may also ask certain Indian applicants to clear the Digital Master Test (dMAT), so confirm this with your shortlisted university early.
  • Keep an IELTS or TOEFL score ready, since most marketing programs are taught fully in English.

My Advice

Start your APS certificate and ECTS credit evaluation the moment you decide on Germany, well before the 15 July deadline, so a slow document check does not push you to the far weaker Summer intake. Talk to your consultant about which public universities match your Bachelor's credit load before you shortlist.
