• UK visa: IELTS Academic can double as your SELT when the Student visa requires one, saving you a second test.
• Canada PGWP: currently accepts IELTS General Training, PTE Core or CELPIP-General, not IELTS Academic, so your admission test will not automatically carry over.
• Ireland: immigration accepts several tests, but check each university's own admission threshold separately from the visa minimum.

My Advice

Book IELTS Academic by default unless you already know your specific shortlisted universities accept PTE or TOEFL, since retesting later purely for a UK visa-specific SELT version wastes both time and money. If your bachelor's degree was fully taught in English throughout, check for a Medium of Instruction waiver at your target universities before booking any test at all.
