To pursue clinical courses in surgery and medicine in the UK, you need a medical degree from a General Medical Council (GMC)-approved institution. After graduating, you must pass the Medical Licensing Assessment (MLA), which includes both knowledge and skills exams. Once you clear the MLA, you can register provisionally with the GMC, then complete the two-year UK Foundation Programme with supervised practice. After this, you can apply for full registration and a licence to practise medicine in the UK. International graduates must also meet these requirements, with the PLAB test as an alternative pathway.
