What is the visa situation and process for Singapore for international students?
You must obtain a Student's Pass (student visa) to study in Singapore as an international student.
Key steps:
- Secure admission from a recognized Singaporean institution.
- The institution applies for your Student's Pass online through the SOLAR system.
- Documents needed include a valid passport, admission letter, academic transcripts, proof of financial means, passport photos, and possibly a medical report.
- Application fee: SGD 30 (non-refundable), plus an issuance fee of SGD 60 after arrival.
- Processing time: typically 2-4 weeks.
- After approval, you'll receive an In-Principle Approval (IPA) letter to enter Singapore and complete final formalities.
Work rights: With a Student's Pass, you may work up to 16 hours/week during term and full-time during vacations, subject to current rules.
Post-study: Singapore does not offer a dedicated post-study work visa (PSW). To work after graduation, you must secure a job offer and apply for a work pass through your employer.
