What is the timeline for visa application for the September intake in Canada, and what are the IELTS requirements for visa and admission for a Postgraduate?
Apply for your Canadian study permit by March 2026 for the September 2026 intake. This allows enough time for the typical 8 - 12 week processing period and other steps like medical exams and biometrics (subject to change).
For IELTS, most Canadian universities require:
- Minimum overall 6.5 (no band below 6.0) for undergraduate programs
- Minimum overall 6.5 for postgraduate programs (some may require higher)
The IELTS score needed for admission also satisfies visa requirements. Since you haven't taken IELTS yet, plan to schedule and prepare for the exam soon to meet these timelines. If you need help with the process, connect with your LeapScholar counsellor.
