Eligibility to study in Malaysia changes with the level you are applying for. The table below shows the basic conditions, but every university sets its own final rules.

Basic Eligibility by Course Level

Course levelTypical requirement
Bachelor'sUEC (Unified Exam Certificate) with 75% marks, or STPM pass, or Matriculation or Polytechnic Certificate
Master'sBachelor's degree in a relevant field, and sometimes work experience
PhD or DoctorateMaster's degree in a related field, or a Bachelor's with an excellent CGPA (3.70+)

Language and Test Scores

If you are from a non-English-speaking country, you may need to submit IELTS or TOEFL scores. Most Malaysian universities typically do not require SAT or GRE scores. Confirm this on the university's official page.

My Advice

Match your qualification to the right row before you shortlist programmes. If your board is not named, ask the university directly which equivalent qualification it accepts.
