What are the post-study work or PR settlement options in the countries I am targeting in UK/Singapore in USA?
Here’s a summary of post-study work and permanent residency (PR) options for the UK, Singapore, and the USA:
- UK: The Graduate Visa (post-study work visa) allows you to stay and work for 2 years after your bachelor’s degree if you apply before 31 December 2026; from 1 January 2027, this reduces to 18 months. After that, you can switch to a Skilled Worker Visa if you have a qualifying job offer, which can lead to permanent residency (Indefinite Leave to Remain) after 5 years.
- Singapore: There is no dedicated post-study work visa. You may apply for a Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP) for up to 1 year to look for a job (not for working). If you secure employment, your employer can sponsor you for an Employment Pass, which may eventually make you eligible to apply for PR, though approval is competitive.
- USA: After graduating, you can apply for Optional Practical Training (OPT) - 12 months for most degrees, up to 36 months for STEM graduates. For longer-term stay, you need employer sponsorship for an H-1B work visa, which is competitive and capped. PR (Green Card) is possible but often takes several years and employer sponsorship.
Visa durations, eligibility, and PR policies are subject to change.
