Post-study work options and visa rules differ across the USA, UK, and New Zealand:

- USA: After graduation, you can apply for Optional Practical Training (OPT) for up to 12 months. STEM graduates may extend OPT by 24 months (total 36 months). After OPT, staying longer requires an H-1B work visa, which needs employer sponsorship and is lottery-based.

- UK: The Graduate Route visa allows you to work for up to 2 years after a master’s or bachelor’s, or 3 years after a PhD. No job offer is needed to apply, but you must apply before your student visa expires. To stay longer, you’ll need to switch to a Skilled Worker visa.

- New Zealand: The Post Study Work Visa (PSWV) lets you work for up to 3 years, depending on your qualification and study location. You need to have studied full-time in New Zealand for at least 30 weeks and show proof of funds (NZD 5,000). You can bring your partner and children.

Visa rules and durations are subject to change. For detailed guidance on your next steps, connect with your LeapScholar counsellor.
