For Germany, you usually need to open a blocked account (Sperrkonto) with about €11,904 deposited. This covers your first year’s living expenses, with around €992/month accessible. Some embassies may accept alternatives, such as scholarships or sponsorships, but the blocked account is the standard proof of funds.

For Ireland, a blocked account is not required. Instead, you must show proof of funds - typically at least €10,000/year for living costs, plus payment of at least €6,000 towards tuition fees. Acceptable proofs include recent bank statements, sponsor letters, or education loan sanction letters.

In both countries, the visa authorities only verify your funds; they do not hold the money. If you need help preparing your financial documents or understanding the process, your Leap counsellor can guide you.
