Spouses of skilled workers generally have better immediate work rights in Germany than in Ireland, but the details depend on the main applicant’s visa type.

- Germany: Spouses of EU Blue Card or Skilled Worker Visa holders usually get full work rights as soon as they arrive. For most, basic German language skills (A1 level) may be needed, unless exempt. Other visa types may have additional conditions, but work rights are typically granted upon arrival.

- Ireland: Spouses of Critical Skills Employment Permit holders can work immediately without a separate permit. For General Employment Permit or Intra-Company Transfer holders, spouses must wait 12 months to join and then need a separate permit to work.

Visa rules and requirements are subject to change.
